MagSafe FAQs: Everything You Need To Know
Q: What is MagSafe and how should I talk about it to clients?
A: Simply put, MagSafe means a magnet is used to easily attach chargers and accessories to your phone. It makes charging and adding things like wallets or stands simple and secure.
When selling to your clients, we suggest highlighting the following benefits:
- With how much we are on our phones, the opportunity to have branding in that space, with a large imprint area, is a HUGE selling point!
- Convenience (on-the-go)
- Secure fit on back of phone
- Broad range of accessory options, aka the MagSafe EcoSystem
Q: How much do the products weigh? Will it make your phone heavy?
A: Most MagSafe accessories are lightweight—typically just a few ounces—so they won’t add much bulk to your phone.
Q: Can you still charge your phone on a wireless charging pad when the PopSockets are on it?
A: If you have the Original PopSocket, where it is permanently adhered to your phone (or phone case), wireless charging will unfortunately be blocked.
However, if you have the NEW PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe, you will be able to use both! This new MagSafe version of the PopSocket allows you to remove it as you please, so that you can use a wireless charging pad or other MagSafe device. You can then pop your PopSocket for MagSafe back on once you are done charging. It’s the best of both worlds!
Q: What are the most effective uses for MagSafe?
A: MagSafe is great for wireless charging, attaching wallets, stands, and car mounts.
Q: What are the best-selling MagSafe items?
A: Top sellers include MagSafe-compatible wireless chargers, wallets, stands, and PopSocket grips. These are popular for convenience, and have great space for branding.

Q: Is there a chance for damage to the phone from the magnet?
A: MagSafe magnets are safe for phones.
Q: Is charging as fast through MagSafe as standard connection?
A: Charging is fast, but not quite as fast as using a high-speed cable. MagSafe is faster than standard wireless charging (up to 15W), but wired charging is still the quickest.
Q: What devices are compatible with MagSafe?
A: iPhone 12 and newer have MagSafe already integrated into their design, however, iClick provides adapters with each MagSafe item that will allow them to work with any iPhone or Android device.
Q: What are the advantages of using MagSafe over other chargers?
A: MagSafe works wirelessly and attaches to your phone magnetically so you can very easily charge on the go. It’s easier to align and attach than regular Qi charging.
Q: Can MagSafe create any overheating issues on phones?
A: Overheating is rare, as long as you follow safety guidelines (avoid high heat, overcharging, etc.). Some warmth is normal, but overheating is rare. If it gets too hot, stop charging and let it cool. Be sure to follow instructions included with your item, and you should not run into any issues.
Q: What is the magnet strength of the MagSafe and will you come out with other shapes for the PopSocket portion of it?
A: The magnets are strong enough to hold accessories securely but are safe for devices. We’re always exploring new shapes and styles for future releases. We’d love to hear what other shapes/ideas you have in mind!
Q: I don't know much about how these products work, what makes them safe and compliant but love to provide education to our clients!
A: MagSafe uses safe, built-in magnets and is certified to meet safety standards. It makes charging and attaching accessories easy and secure for users.
Q: What’s the difference between MagSafe and Qi wireless charging?
A: Qi = standard wireless charging, works with many brands, does not involve magnets. For example, these would be the wireless charging pads you set your phone on (but it does not magnetically stick to it).
MagSafe = Magnetically secures accessories to your phone.
Only MagSafe chargers actually charge your phone. Other MagSafe accessories just use the magnets for easy attachment.
MagSafe is safe and designed to protect your battery’s health.
Q: Can I use MagSafe with a case on my phone?
A: Yes, you can use MagSafe with a case on your phone. The ideal scenario is where your case is MagSafe-compatible, meaning it has the magnetic ring built within it so that you can immediately snap accessories onto your phone. If your phone case is not MagSafe-compatible, that’s still not a problem! iClick includes an adapter ring with each MagSafe accessory so that you can retrofit your items, including Android devices, making this technology universal!
Q: Does MagSafe charging generate more heat than other methods? / Does MagSafe charging reduce battery lifespan?
A: Some warmth during charging is normal, but overheating is rare if safety guidelines are followed. MagSafe includes built-in safety features to prevent overcharging and overheating, helping to protect battery health.
Q: Why are MagSafe products so popular?
A: They’re easy to use, snap on securely, and offer lots of accessory options. People love the convenience and flexibility.
Q: How does MagSafe improve the user experience compared to traditional wireless charging?
A: MagSafe makes charging and attaching accessories easy and precise. Built-in safety features prevent overheating and overcharging. It’s created a whole new range of accessories. Alignment helps with efficient charging.
Q: What environmental impacts could result from widespread MagSafe accessory use?
A: Like most electronics, MagSafe products contain rare earth materials such as neodymium. The environmental impact is similar to other small electronic accessories.
Q: What are the key safety features of MagSafe, and how do they prevent device damage?
A: MagSafe products are certified to meet safety standards and include features to prevent overheating, overcharging, and misalignment. Look for certifications like Qi, FCC, and CE for added assurance.
Q: In what ways does MagSafe enable a new ecosystem of mobile accessories?
A: MagSafe has enabled a wide range of accessories—wallets, stands, grips, and mounts—that can be easily swapped and securely attached.
Q: How does MagSafe alignment affect charging efficiency and speed?
A: Proper alignment ensures optimal charging speed and efficiency. Misalignment can reduce charging performance.
Q: What are the potential limitations or downsides of MagSafe technology?
A: MagSafe works best with newer iPhones and MagSafe-compatible cases, however, iClick includes an adapter package with every MagSafe item so that you can turn older iPhones as well as Android devices into MagSafe items.
Q: How might MagSafe influence future smartphone design trends?
A: MagSafe and similar magnetic accessories are becoming more common, so you’ll very likely see them more in the future.
Q: How secure is MagSafe when used for mounting devices in high-motion environments (e.g., cars, bikes)?
A: Accessories are secure, but very rough movement can dislodge them.
Q: Is MagSafe charging faster and safer?
A: MagSafe is safe and charges quickly—faster than standard wireless charging, but not as fast as a cable. Nothing will be as fast as a cable.
Q: What types of MagSafe promotional items are resonating the most with clients outside of the tech space?
A: Wallets, stands, and grips are popular beyond tech. Emphasize everyday convenience and how MagSafe makes life simpler, not just more high-tech.
Q: Will they work even when placed over a MagSafe case (so there are multiple layers of MagSafe product)?
A: MagSafe accessories work best with just one MagSafe-compatible case. Stacking multiple MagSafe layers can weaken the magnetic hold.
Q: Is it an Apple exclusive product? Also, how does it not damage a credit card like other magnets do?
A: MagSafe is designed by Apple, but many brands (like us!) make compatible products. The magnets are safe for credit cards due to shielding, but it’s best not to store cards with magnetic stripes directly against MagSafe magnets.
Q: Has anyone else experienced anything like this? (e.g., MagSafe charger interfering with car remote)
A: Sometimes, magnets can interfere with other devices in close contact. Keeping them apart should prevent issues.
Q: Will this be the new norm?
A: MagSafe and similar magnetic accessories are becoming more common, so you’ll likely see them more in the future.
Q: How do PopSockets affect MagSafe products?
A: Our PopSocket PopGrip is MagSafe-compatible, so it can be removed easily for charging.
The “regular,” original PopSockets may block wireless charging since they can not be removed.
Q: How does the charging speed of a MagSafe connection with a phone differ from a non-MagSafe wireless charge and also to that of a direct cable connection?
A: MagSafe charges faster than standard Qi wireless chargers but is still a bit slower than a direct cable connection.
Q: What if I don't have a MagSafe phone?
A: No worries! iClick includes an adapter set with each MagSafe item so that you can retrofit older versions of the iPhone as well as Android devices. This makes our MagSafe product universal!
Q: If we wanted a custom PMS color MagSafe case, what would be min. qty?
A: Minimum order quantities vary by product—please contact us for specifics on custom PMS color cases.
Q: What is the charging output (watts)?
A: MagSafe chargers are typically 15-watts.
Q: Are there any certifications (e.g., Qi-certified, FCC, CE)?
A: Yes, reputable MagSafe products are Qi-certified and may also carry FCC and CE certifications, ensuring safety and compliance. In some instances, our items are now UL-Certified.
Q: How is it packaged—retail-style or bulk? Is the packaging customizable?
A: We individually package each item in FSC-Certified Kraft Tuck Boxes, allowing a more retail feel. There are customization options available depending on the product which we are building out as we speak. Until these options are formally announced, please contact iClick for more information.
Q: What was the best promo you have seen so far using MagSafe or a Tech item from iClick?
A: We have seen quite a few customers use the PopSocket PopGrip for MagSafe as a self-promo. Instead of a business card, they’ve used the custom backer card that comes with the PopSockets PopGrip as a space to put their contact information, a fun full-color design, QR code, and other creative and fun things that are meaningful to their brand!
If you’d like to hear more about this, please get in touch with our sales team.
Q: What type of customer is it geared toward?
A: MagSafe accessories are ideal for anyone seeking convenience, fast charging, and easy-to-use phone add-ons. We actually can’t think of any customers it wouldn’t be good for…
Q: Does MagSafe strip your credit cards/make them not work anymore?
A: MagSafe is generally safe, but it’s best not to store cards with magnetic stripes directly against the magnets. The PopWallet Plus for MagSafe keeps your credit cards safe, while still attaching to your phone magnetically.
Q: Are there any drawbacks or limitations to using MagSafe products?
A: MagSafe works best with newer iPhones and MagSafe-compatible cases. Stacking multiple MagSafe accessories or using non-compatible cases can weaken the magnetic hold. Accessories may be dislodged by very rough movement.
Q: How fast does MagSafe charge compared to standard Qi wireless chargers? Do third-party MagSafe accessories work as well as Apple’s?
A: MagSafe charges faster than regular Qi. iClick’s MagSafe accessories do work as well as Apple’s.
Q: Do they contain any rare earth material?
A: Yes, MagSafe magnets use rare earth materials like neodymium.
Q: What’s the difference between MagSafe-certified and MagSafe-compatible?

Q: Can MagSafe interfere with medical devices like pacemakers?
A: Yes, MagSafe devices can interfere with pacemakers and other cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), such as implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), when placed in close proximity. For those with a pacemaker, CIED, or ICD, it is recommended that you:
- Do not carry your iPhone or MagSafe accessories in a shirt or jacket pocket over your implant.
- Maintain a minimum distance of 6 inches (15 cm) between your device and your pacemaker or ICD, and 12 inches (30 cm) when wirelessly charging.
